€15m+ Taiwan petrochem water recycling contract win for Veolia

Veolia, through its specialized oil and gas solutions and technologies unit, has been awarded a contract worth over €15 million euros with leading Taiwanese refiner and olefins producer Formosa Petrochemical Corporation (FPCC).

FPCC are looking to expand the production capacity of its Mai Liao petrochemical complex (south west coast of Taiwan) and also, further reduce its surface water consumption.

Veolia will undertake an upgrade of the existing  water treatment plant at the complex, including design,  supply of technology and equipment and guarantee of performance on the upgraded plant. The solution and technologies implemented by Veolia on the site will provide for an important decrease in raw water consumption of the plant (from 60,000 m3/day down to 25,000 m3/day, 5,000 m3/day of which will be reused.

Solutions used at FPCC Mai Lioa site include in-house technologies such as AnoxKaldnes MBBR (Moving Bed Bio Reactor), which maximize water reuse.

Thierry Froment CEO of Veolia Water Oil & Gas commented:

"This contract demonstrates that with its more than 350 proprietary water treatment technologies and solid experience in managing projects for the oil and gas industry, Veolia is able to offer prominent clients such as FPCC, integrated water treatment solutions that maximize water reuse and so reduce the water footprint of these industrial installations, as well as improve their economic performance."

The Mai Liao complex is the largest in Taiwan with a refining capacity of 540,000 barrels per day and a yearly production of ethylene and propylene exceeding respectively 2.9 and 2.3 million tons.

The contract further consolidates Veolia’s position as a leading provider in water treatment technologies and solutions for the oil and gas sector.
